42nd STATE LEVEL SCIENCE SEMINAR, 2023
The Science Promotion Wing, SCERT is taking various steps in order to strengthen and improve Science Education by carrying out various programmes and activities such as organization of Science Exhibition/Fair, Science Drama, Science Seminar, Training of Science & Mathematics teachers, supply of science equipment to schools etc, since 1979.
The UN General Assembly adopted by consensus a resolution sponsored by India and supported by over 70 nations declaring 2023 as the International Year of Millets, aimed at raising awareness about the health benefits of the grain and their suitability for cultivation under changing climatic conditions.
The topic of this year’s Science Seminar is “Millets - A Super Food or a Diet Fad?”. This seminar is held every year on competitive basis in collaboration with the National Council of Science Museum (NCSM), Ministry of Culture, Govt. of at different levels- School level, Block level, District level, State level and National level.
The Wing has been organizing the Students Science Seminar since 1979. This is the 42nd State Level Science Seminar being organized today. Prior to this, The District Level Students Science Seminars were held in 8 Districts of Mizoram. A number of 8 students (1 winner from each district) are expected to participate in today’s Seminar.
Objective of the Seminar:
· The objective of Seminar is:
· To inculcate in the minds of young student a spirit of Scientific enquiry and analytical thinking.
· To provide a platform to the budding Scientists for exchanging ideas.
· To nurture a feeling of national integration among young talents from every corner of the Country.
The seminar is evaluate by the following three judges who have expertise in their own fields.
i) Dr. Zothansiama, Asst. Professor, Department of Zoology, MZU
ii) Pu F. Lalliansanga, Deputy Director, SCERT, Mizoram
iii) Pu P.C. Lalrintluanga, Science Consultant, SCERT, Mizoram
The top winner of today’s seminar will represent Mizoram at National Science Seminar, 2023 to be held at National Science Centre, New Delhi on 12th
October, 2023. The winner of National Science Seminar is awarded with a Scholarship of 4000/- per month tenable for one years, special prizes (to 9 person) 2000/- per month is given to second rank holders. The participants from Mizoram have also bagged second position two times in the past.
